I have discovered roads are never straight;
That sometimes far horizons are obscured
By bends that veil the scenery ahead,
That courses we must walk are never sure.
I walked a long, long bend a while ago,
A curve that slowed my running to a walk;
That asked of me again and yet again,
To trust the course, and He who knows its turns.
The bend has bent my course another way,
Has forced my eyes to look at life anew,
Has changed the angle of my heart toward God.
And I have learned, a bend is not the end—
It makes the scenery different, it is true
But it can bend my heart in greater trust,
And teach me that a faithful, great Heart bends
Above the road. He watches every turn,
His love the compass as the road bends Home.
